1972年2月21日，毛泽东主与尼克松总统在中南海会谈。毛泽东说：“来自美国方面的侵略，或者来自中国方面的侵略，这个问题比较小，也可以说不是大问题，因为现在不存在我们两国互相打仗的问题。”尼克松说：“美中相互并不构成威胁，我们现在走到一起来了，是因为我们认识到世界上出现了新的形势。我们可以实现一个突破。”
On February21，1972，Chairman Mao Zedong talked with President Richard N ixon at Zhongnanhai.
Chairman Mao said：“An aggression from either the American side or the Chinese side would be a small question；or you can say it's not a big question，for it is now out of the question that we would be engaged in a war against each other.”Nixon said：“The United States and China do not constitute threats to each other.Now we've come togethe because we have realized the new situation in the world.We can realize a breakthrough.”
