On January24，1980，Vice—Premier Deng Xiaoping attended the ceremony for signing six agreements on scientific and technological co—operation between C hina and the United States.Deng told the visiting US scientific and technological delegation that“both China and the United States are interested in scientific and technological co—operation and there are extensive areas for co—operation in science and technology between the two countries.”
