1984年4月26日至5月1日，美国总统罗纳德·里根访华。中国领导人在与里根会见时说，中美关系近来是好的，中美关系的前景也是好的，但还有障碍。主要障碍是台湾问题。三个联合公报是两国关系的基础，美国应切实执行三个联合公报，奉行"一个中国"的政策。里根表示：美国将覆行在三个联合公报中所承担的义务，执行"一个中国"的政策。

Between April 26 and May 1,1984,US President Ronald Reagan Visited China. When meeting Reagan, the Chinese leaders said that the Sino-US relations had been good for that time and that they also enjoyed bright prospects, but faced obstacles. The Chinese leaders pointed out that the main obstacle was the Taiwan question and that as the three Joint Communiques served as the basis for the relations between the two countries, the United States must earnestly implement them and abide by the "one China"policy. Reagan stated that the United States would honour its obligations laid down in the three communiques and implement the "one China"policy.On April 26, Chinese President Li Xiannian met President Reagan and his wife in Beijing.
