Dear friend of World Press Photo,

The names of the 2008 World Press Photo jury have been announced, and all information you will need to enter next year's contest is now available on our website. Meanwhile, the 2007 exhibition season continues, with a high-profile opening in Brussels. And in November live streaming will bring the masterclass to computer screens all over the world.

On your marks for the 2008 contest

From today, everything you need to know to take part in the 2008 World Press Photo contest is explained on our website. The Entry Form may be downloaded in nine different languages. All you have to do is follow the four steps described. We remind all participants that entries must reach us no later than Thursday 10 January. For those who use the regular mail, this means that they should post their material well ahead of this date. http://www.worldpressphoto.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=431&Itemid=176&bandwidth=high

  Online entry

Contestants who prefer to enter their pictures online may do so from 1 December by uploading them directly to our server. Last year, the interface enabling this fast and convenient way of entering the contest was available for the first time, and almost 2,000 participants used it to submit 42,5 percent of all entries. We are hard at work to ensure that photojournalists with internet access will again be able to upload their photographs for the competition in this way. You will find further details in our next newsletter, due to appear at the end of November.

  Next year's jury

As always, every effort has been made to compose a well-balanced jury of experts on different photographic disciplines from countries and continents around the globe. We are proud to announce that Gary Knight from the UK has agreed to chair the 13-member 2008 World Press Photo jury. A very experienced photographer himself, Knight is cofounder and chairman of the VII photo agency. He is also involved with magazines and photo festivals and has twice been a member of our judging panel. David Burnett to speak online

On Thursday 8 November at 16.00 hours CET, people inside and outside the profession are invited to go to the World Press Photo website for a presentation by David Burnett, one of this year's masters and a photographer with Contact Press Images. On this occasion we will use live streaming for the first time. Burnett's subject, tracking the photographer's career through the decades, has been specially selected to appeal to a broad audience. Don't miss this unique opportunity to be a masterclass participant.

Hybrid study program in the Philippines

World Press Photo has teamed up with the Asian Center for Journalism at Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines to develop a training program for working Filippino journalists. Four of the courses are hybrid, which means they alternate between the conventional and the virtual classroom. In a Q&A interview the center's director and the program coordinator explain how they deal with the challenges of this 'blended' way of guiding the participants toward their Diploma in Photojournalism. www.worldpressphoto.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1028&Itemid=177&bandwidth=high

Three other distinguished speakers will also give their take on the event and the organization. They are Peter Bakker, CEO of corporate sponsor TNT which also hosts the opening, Pieter Broertjes, chief editor of De Volkskrant and chairman of our executive board, and Spencer Platt, winner of the World Press Photo of the Year 2006.
