合肥晚报 Harvard University , one of the world‘s greatest resources,whichcelebrated its 350th anniversary in 1986, is the oldestinstitutionof higher learning in the United States. Founded 16years after thearrival of the Pilgrims at Plymouth, the Universityhas grown fromnine students with a single master to an enrollmentof more than18,000 degree candidates, including undergraduates andstudents in10 principal academic units. An additional 13,000students areenrolled in one or more courses in the HarvardExtension School.Over 14,000 people work at Harvard, including morethan 2,000faculty. There are also 7,000 faculty appointments inaffiliatedteaching hospitals. It has 17 academic departmentsadministered bynine faculties. Allied with them are 95 libraries,seven potentialinstitutions two astronomical stations, more than 50laboratoriesof science, Engineering, and medicine, nine museums ofnaturalhistory, medicine, art and archaeology and numerouscommittees,hospitals, clinics, and foundations that devoted toadvanced studyand research. And such is its renown that its currentenrollmentincludes students from almost 90 countries. For three anda halfcenturies then, Harvard has been at the very center ofthegathering and dispensing of old and new knowledge that hasaffectedpeople everywhere. Most of Harvard University is located in and nearCambridge,Boston, and Allston, Massachusetts, on the east coast ofthe UnitedStates of America. Harvard College and some graduateschools arelocated in Cambridge. The Harvard Business School andmany athleticfacilities are across the Charles River in Allston.The HarvardMedical School, the Harvard School of Public Health, andtheHarvard School of Dental Medicine are in an area of Boston knownasthe Longwood Medical Area or Longwood Medical Campus。 | |||||
