David Cameron’s first official US visit is being overshadowed by an escalating dispute over Britain’s role in the release of the Lockerbie bomber and its connection to a lucrative deal between BP and Libya. The White House gave warning that President Obama would raise the so-called “oil for terrorism” deal during his talks with the Prime Minister today. Last night Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State, called on the UK and Scottish governments to reveal more about last year’s decision to allow Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi to return to Libya. She urged them to “review the underlying facts and circumstances leading to the release” and to “consider any new information that has come to light since”. (节选部分)
