老外日渐青睐深圳本土文化

  Local cultural flavor attracts foreigners

  “At the beginning foreigners came to Shenzhen for trade and manufacture. Now I see more of them are into the cultural business.” said Brent Deverman a co-founder of a social networking website for foreigners in Shenzhen.

  Brent set up the English language website in 2000 after his graduation in the U.S.. His website began to promote ICIF three years ago and the feedback from foreigners was unexpectedly good.

  He was working with one of his assistants on an agenda for a group of foreigners to visit the fair today when the reporter called in for an interview. Last year they sent some 130 foreigners to visit the fair and expect the number to exceed 150 this year.

  According to his observation the cultural industry is progressing rapidly. Dafen Oil Painting Village is undoubtedly very attractive to foreigners. There are copied masterpieces of Western artists which are nice in quality and worth the value. Some foreigners are also happy to find Chinese artists there working on original paintings of rich Chinese cultural flavors.

  The OCT Loft Park is another place always praised by foreigners. The park itself is designed very artistically and has an ambience very friendly to artists. There are more and more exhibitions of works by foreign artists. “It is a place mostly like Europe in Shenzhen so many of us would like to pay a visit there even for no reason.” said him.

  Besides Shenzhen was the first city to mass-produce cartoons for foreign companies. Brent gave a special section to introduce Shenzhen National Cartoon and Animation Industry Base on his website to help those potential visitors. Some of his friends actually work for famous companies in the field in Shenzhen.

  As one fifth of visitors to his website live overseas he got enquiries on local cultural industries from foreigners in the U.S. Germany or other countries or areas from time to time. They asked about how to have an art exhibition in Shenzhen how to know Chinese and foreign artists living in Shenzhen and how to be enrolled by Guanlan Print Base and so on.

  The key of promoting Shenzhen cultural industry worldwide lies in the people said Brent. The city shall encourage people to visit art galleries or museums more frequently especially those international exhibitions. Also it will need people who understand the art business.

  “One American asked me about how to sell oil paintings to the U.S. from Dafen Village. My suggestion is that he must hire some people here to communicate with the artists who barely speak any English.” said Brent.

  “最初外国人是冲着做生意来深圳的,现在越来越多的老外开始对文化产业感兴趣。”深圳某知名外国人社交网站的创始人Brent Deverman说。美国小伙子Brent2000年在深圳创办了专为外国人服务的英语网站,从3年前开始在网站上推介文博会,受到老外的欢迎。

  记者打电话采访Brent时,他正在和助手安排组织老外参观文博会的事务。去年,他们成功组织了130名外国人参与文博会的各项活动,今年预计会超过150人。

  在Brent看来,深圳的文化产业正在走上快车道。大芬村当然是吸引老外的一个亮点,大芬油画符合欧美人的欣赏口味,价格低廉而工艺精良,有些慕名而来的老外还发现那里有许多原创艺术家,可以买到除复制油画外的高质量画作。

  华侨城创意文化产业园也是颇受本地老外推崇的一个地方。在那里举办各种展览的外国艺术家接踵而至,成为中外艺术家交流与展示的平台,艺术氛围日益浓厚。“华侨城创意园是深圳最像欧洲的地方,很多老外有事没事都爱去逛逛。”

  深圳是中国第一个大规模对外生产动漫产品的城市,动漫产业在国内较为发达。Brent在他的网站上,也用了不少笔墨介绍深圳动漫产业基地。他告诉记者,自己的一些老外朋友就在深圳动漫企业工作。

  Brent的网站有近1/5的访问者来自海外,时常有人会咨询如何来深圳举办艺术展览,如何与本地艺术家交流,如何进驻观澜版画村等等。谈到如何促进深圳文化产业“走出去”,Brent说,一方面深圳要进一步提升艺术氛围,另一方面要培养能够和老外做生意的文化人。

  “前段时间有个美国人问我如何把大芬的油画卖到美国去,我的建议是要在村里设个点,最好找个英文流利的中国人做助手。因为大芬村的艺术家多数都不懂英语,而艺术品不同于其他商品,代理人的眼光也很重要。要做艺术的生意,必须先做好人的沟通。”Brent说。
